The Deep sea fishing article got some missing characters. We used the proper maltese characters for the Maltese fish names but seems that the magazine software did not recognize them.
@Gaffer - fishfinder is very angry for removing his photo... :)

@Moonwalker, yep that's true it seems to be a comptability problem at the printers. The € sign I had in my article also failed to print!

@Skip - The problem is not with the printers but with the the designers. Either the designers overlooked the problem when they received articles from the contributors or else the final version they forwarded to the printers was not as it should have been, i.e. embedded fonts. I have worked with Gutenberg Press for years and never had any problems relating to missing characters.

Thanks for the clarification Kevin, to be honest I thought it was a printing issue, but as you point out vis-a-vis embedded fonts makes perfect sense.

This morning Magazines passed on to Directors Dr. Anthony Gruppetta and Dr. Andreina Fenech Farrugia.
An amount left in each department for interested staff.

@Fishfinder - The quality of the images supplied were of a very low resolutiuon.  When we tried to put them into the magazine article, and rendered the resolution, both images faded off and lost focus.  We had to make a call to remove them.  Sorry, but I think I've exhausted this argument with all contributors to supply high resolution images.

Ganni - the paid pics were not left out due to low resolution but because of some error while processing the magazine I guess.

Gaffer - Just to clarify things not to make an argument. - Actually there were 3 pics in the original article that were left out. One was fishfinder (although the picture was 1Mb in size it was a little out of focus), the other was a rig (this had a low resolution yes) and the other was my dad with a big bazuga (this was 1Mb too only a little dark).
My only point is that I was not asked to supply other pics but since the article was not submitted early enough then you have your point too.

However I got some comments that we did not include a photo of bazug that is the real target of deep sea fishing.

Joe, Colin, and Antoine in conjunction with Creative Partners spent god only knows how many hours trying to get this magazine done and they did a job that would normally have been assigned to an entire team of editors, designers etc, and the end result was second to none. Everyone that I showed the magazine to assumes it's a foreign publication and are very surprised to learn this was done locally. Unfortunately there were a few Snafu's but they were few and far between.

Perhaps in future years with the creation of the new association that will be formed after the Tournament we will have such a large team in place. May I gently and politely remind everyone reading this that when help was asked for with this Tournament, from our 1,800+ members only a handful stepped forward and this is something that needs to change if people want to see more of these events and things like a magazine. We had a very good response with regards to articles for the magazine, but a very poor result for the actual logistics help needed for both the tournament and the magazine.

After last year's tournament we had requests during weigh-in to do another competition that year!!! everyone loves the end result, but only a few are willing to muck in to get it all organized, the same problems that I know that other clubs have faced whenever they try to put together an event.

Something that can be easily solved....All stewards, judges and anyone who works to get the event going will be paid........since the members do not contribute by doing they will do so by paying and I am sure that this is not a problem for a lot of MFF members not because they are rich or something just because they dont have the time.... those who work overtime, or have to take care of family.........there are thousands of VALID reasons. my 2 dollars (inflation on the 2C )

benri

Got hold of the magazine today - GREAT WORK GUYS!
I'd rather be fishing.....

Hi Tony, I don't really think that's the point of forming a association if people want to be paid to help. Instead one simply won't bother to organise such events until the required help is there! In the case of this year's event, the 'payment' is giving up your free time and incurring costs in order to give all funds collected to Puttinu.

Can you imagine if we say €35 to enter plus another €5 to pay those working an event?

I speak for myself here, but whatever I say can also be applied to Colin.

When last January I posted my intentions here, I never expected that I would end up practically alone on this venture. I must admit, it wouldn't feel the same if I had to be paid for all this. Then it becomes a service and you simply cannot be paid for a charitable cause.
We still need to distribute About 1500 magazines to the major marinas. These magazines have been lying in Colin's garage since last Monday. I was away on business all week, and Colin was working on the boat. As things stand, Colin and myself will again distribute the magazines at the marinas. But not before I get my boat launched.
