Hi,

Anyone out there know if it is possible to use a boat registered 'S' sport at night. I have a friend that said last summer they were camping on Comino. they had gone by boat and left them anchored close by. The Patrol boat came and told them they could not leave the boats in the water after dusk, hence they were advise to pull the boats ashore.

Does anyone know if there is a law stating that a boat registered S cannot sail after dusk Huh

thanks all

As far as I know, there is no law prohibiting fishing at night so long as you have necessary lighting. Most probably your friend did not have the all round white light.

Benri is right.
As long as you have the correct lights you can leave any registered boat at night.

Moreover it is not true that fishing in comino is prohibited.
Adding also that simon did not mention that he was fishing.

Thanks Baghira,

I can't understand how anyone understood that they were fishing. They were camping and the boats were anchored alone. My friend just told me that they were asked to either pull the boats ashore or leave the area, as the boats could not remain in the water were they were. By the way they had all navigation lights including the all round white light.

It does not really matter now, as I managed to check with Malta Maritime and I was advised that as long as the boat has all lights according to legislation it can sail any time night or day.

Thanks for all your help though.

Could it be that they were in the no anchor zone? I'm sure there is a no anchor zone somewhere around Comino.

There seems to be multiple versions here, with non of them being substantiated enough to qualify as a correct answer.  I for one have been following the thread with interest, because this is all news to me.  May I suggest that when the MFF organises the get together/small conference scheduled for some time in April with a representative of the Fisheries Control Division, to put these questions and other queries you may have to the appropriate authority.
