Hi, i was considering buying a boat for this summer. Unfortunately due to budget reasons I was forced either to buy a used one this year or a new one next year ???. Having decided on a used one, I found two boats that really interest me. One was the TRMC boat Commander 13'6 and the other was the Petecraft 14 open. These boats are very similar in design, however i would appreciate if anyone could suggest which is ideal for maltese waters. I intend to use the boat for pleasure and fishing.

Can anyone who knows anything on these boats please help me make my decision, thanks. ;)

Hi Simon,

Malvizzu had started this topic http://maltafishingforum.com/talk/index.php/topic,2475.0.html when he was comparing the Petecraft 14 with  Bucaneer so perhaps you could use it as guidance. To put your mind at ease there was mention of the Petecraft 14 being 'wet' however as I understand it only two hulls were produced with this issue and both owners had them replaced by the new model Petecraft 14 that is the current model that malvizzu owns.

I'm not familar with the TRMC but very much liked the 14 Open.

@simonc - if you want, come and see my Petecraft 14 Open and we'll have a chat about it. Will send you details by PM.

Hi Everyone,

Thanks for all your help and I really appreciate everyone's opinions. I was informed today that there is an English guy who has a Maxxon GS470 open boat up for sale. I know it has a Tohatsu outboard and some items such as the control box and fuel tank were stolen, other then that the boat is in mint condition. I still have to speak to the guy, however he spends most of his time abroad, hence the stolen items from his boat.
Does anyone have any idea how the Maxxon boats handle etc.. I always thought that maxxon only made inflatables?
Would appreciate if anyone can provide me with some information regarding this boat please.

Thanks 8)

Search the internet and check if you can find some reviews about the boat. If it has a 2-stroke motor over 40 hp I would think twice before buying it because for fuel economy there is a difference between 2-stroke and a 4-stroke or DI 2-stroke
