Im searching the market for 2 electric fishing reels for some serious deep sea fishing.  Any opinions or recommendations as to what brand, spool size, and power i should look into?

For serious deep sea fishing i would recommend the Kristal Fishing XL410 .  it has a spool that can easily take 3000 mtrs of .70 mm braid so that if you get stuck and cut the braid you will always have enough braid to continue fishing. you can also buy an extra spool and fill it with 1000 mtrs braid each if you dont want to buy 3000 mtrs of braid. when you dont have enough braid on one spool you just put the other spool and continue fishing.

It is very powerful and you will have no problems to land any fish of any size. it is also good because it doesnt have a digital counter or any small gears that can get damaged and than you will have to send it abroad to get it repaired. it is also well priced compared to the other small electric reels

As busumark rightly said, the Kristal Fishing XL410 is a heavy duty beast. Last Friday I paid a visit to Norbert (Okuma-19767 on the forum) as he's the agent for the Kristal. It takes different size of spools, even those of the bigger versions. The wire is very thick and can take 12v or 24v ensuring no loss in power when retrieving. The XL410 can also take a 2kg weight and can be used as a downrigger. According to Norbert, a new type of rod, more flexible and slightly longer is available with the unit. Another positive is that the XL410 is cheaper than the Ryobi computerized reel. Contact Okuma for further details and prices.

Thanks for the replies.  Will have a chat with Norbert.   I was told to look into the miya epoch electric reels too.....

Yes they are very good as well. I have a friend who has 2 Command X4 and 1 Command X5 and another friend who has the X4. Both caught really good sized fish in the region of 12kg and 18kg. These reels are very robust as well. The advantage of the Miya over the Kristal is that the Miya retrieves at around 120m per min whilst the Kristal around 80m per min. Still when my friend caught an 18kg hanzir, he had to reel in the last 50m manually because the reel stopped. The Kristal, being all mechanically driven, although retrieves less per minute, is more heavy duty and will definitely serve longer years than the Miya which is more computerized. And everyone knows what salt water can do. As regards price, a new Kristal will be the same if not cheaper than a Miya from eBay, taking into consideration of having to pay postage and import duties. And believe me, the people at the Marsa post office are being very cautious about the invoices being presented  ;)

Have a look at what busumark caught with the Kristal  :o :) http://maltafishingforum.com/talk/index.php?action=gallery;sa=view;id=4463 about a 60-70kg monster ;D
