Hi, i`m new to this interesting forum, just discovered it a few days ago.
I` ve been spearfishing for the last 5 years in our seas.  I used to go to sea only in summer, but from last year I`ve been going in the other seasons as well.
I have a question about sea bass and maybe some one can help me...

When is the best time to encounter seabass in the maltese waters??
Also, where do you try to hunt these fish?

I have never encountered these fish except for one of about 100gr (too small) in September...

Thanks in advance to any help.

Hi,

Wellcome in this forum. The sea bass normally can be seen in winter seasons. It likes cold waters so hope that the temperature goes down so we will have some nice shoots. Yes they do come much bigger, as for example i shoot on 1 over 8kg, but its a bit rare to meet them in summer. The best areas are with the ports areas. 2 weeks ago, I meet one of above 1kg but didn't shoot cos was surrounded by 3-4kg mullets and instead I've shoot on 1 of them. (the reason is cos I prefare fight with a 4kg monster mullet instead of having a sea bass and it's a fish that i don't like)

Thanks Emicmalta for your quick reply and for the welcome.

If I understood well, this means that the seabass may be found in the same places where we normally encounter mullets.

Yes your right, But always look at his stomach so that doesn`t smells bad. Cos somtimes it tends to go in ports and you know what you can find in our ports  :'( :'( :'( :'(

Yepp, you`re right. Thanks for the advice

hoping for a good hunt of bass this year last year with the reel rob i managed to catch 33 kilos of see bass in just 3 hrs of fishing will try find the pic for you later.
A bad day of fishing is still better than a good day at the office

Man will never be able to stop time but he can get very close by freediving.

Anyone gone for some spearfishing lately?  The sea conditions weren`t very nice :( :(
I went last Saturday and Sunday, but in one place there was a lot of current, altough I went in the North, and in the other place the sea was like milk, 0 visibility, I think its due to the previous rain ??? ???
