Hi,
I've been in Malta for the past 2 months and been spearfishing for the last month, and i love the sport. However im still struggling to catch any bigger fish. Ive tried areas such as st pauls islands, places around Marsaxlokk, around paradise bay, south of golden, ghar lapsi etc... are there any areas that you would recommend where i could make a big catch? :) Thanks for any tips and tricks or places :)

To be honest anything bigger than 50 cm and edible, dont care on what fish it is :) you guys gotta have some good spots :) and tips how to get them, since i have a feeling that when i have a speargun with me they sense it and all swim away :)

You've chosen the wrong island my friend!! There's no fishes here, neither big nor small!

The fella comes on here for advice and all you guys give him is sarcasm........Nice!!

asking for fishing spots in malta is not exactly asking for "advice".giving good spots over here is taboo.ask anything else and advice would be duly given.

Not a spearfisherman myself, but even for the more experienced and expert spearfishermen, fish over 50 cm long are not in any way a regular catch - fish greater than 50 cm in size do get caught but they are the exception rather than the rule in Maltese spearfishing - and most other types of recreational fishing at that (except perhaps for offshore trolling or deep bottom fishing).

Ooh didnt know places are such a taboo :) let me rephrase it a bit then, I dont have a boat, so i cannot go out long distances, is it better to spear fish close to the shore? or swim at least some distance away from shore? Also, what works best, getting to the bottom, and sitting and waiting, or hunting under rocks and swimming around? Im looking for any advice, that might be a given to you guys, but I might not know about :) thx

You won't find much help mate here...... It's a too vast subject and many things are related to the species of fish targeted, type of equipment, time of the year etc etc ect............. Years of experiance are needed to gater some specific information........which might result in a fish over 50cm of length every now and then...

Best you watch videos on you tube and gather some info from Marco Bardi's video's for example... They areb taken in the med.........so quite like our seas...
