Private Met Station issues wave warning

MaltaWeatherSite.com, a private weather service, has warned that unusually high waves may hit Marsascala, Marsaxlokk and Birzebbuga tomorrow.

It said that a low pressure system currently extending from Atlantic to Algeria is moving eastwards and expected to bring southeasterly Force 7 winds increasing to Gale Force 8 between 10pm tomorrow till 3pm on Wednesday.

It said wave heights are expected to reach a maximum of  around five metres, also from the southeast, and with a swell of around four metres.

"This will definitely be dangerous for boats sailing or berthed along the coast at
Marsascala, St Thomas Bay, Marsaxlokk, Birzebbugia, Wied iz-Zurrieq and Ghar Lapsi. Some damage could also occur inland especially on hilltops and exposed areas due to the wind" the site said.

Some rain showers, possibly thundery and with hail, are also possible on Wednesday as the frontal system associated with this low pressure system moves over the central Mediterranean.

Granitu

albeit sheltered, looks like keeping tje boat up this week was a good decision.
