I think this is just a blantant lie. No facts and loads of hype by the usual wreck divers..... Ahjar d dive centres jaraw lil min jikru cilindri u hrapen fuq r wrecks u li jkollom arja tajba u mux mahmuga....

Good season so far.....

What for blastbelly?????.
This is a stupid story made by individuals whose only concern is not the environment. But business.
Are the fish happy with all the diving activity and photos and light day and night that all the fish in popular dive sites are subject to???

That was no lie. On the same day on youtube there was a video of a spearfisherman fishing one of the coronetfish. Then just after the story surfaced the video was removed. Not all spearfisherman have the environment at heart. Nor all take care that this wonderful hobby continues to be practiced. That was a sad story because a coronetfish is not a dentex which one can show off with.
The sea is blue, beautiful and wonderful.Look at it, livein it and respect it.

who was the author of this movie?
Was it filmed in the nature reserve?
Why was the fish released?
Is it illegal to shoot a cornet fish if otherwise?
These are just 4 questions.
Many more come throu my mind...

hi baghira, i was asking cause i was expecting to see photos of the dead coronets with the news articles,
the diver who found them himself said he had a camera. from a photo you can reach your own conclusion if a net was involved/ harpoon. another possibility is they were fed the wrong food the day before
(by well intentioned but misinformed tourist divers) food such as potatoes/chips/crisps will kill many fish as their intestines cant digest them.

Baghira, the one who posted it was the one who shot at it. Why remove it exactly afterwards if there was nothing to hide? As far as I know it is not illegal to shoot on a coronetfish.

I too do not believe that the fish were dumped but I do believe that scuba divers saw the spearfisherman coming out of the water with the fish.( It is too cold to go for a spearfishing session and then dump the fish)

The scuba divers harm the environment a lot as a lot of them disturb the area since they have no real knowledge of life beneath the sea.

As emic rightly said there are business interests now that the tourist season starts approaching.

The sea is blue, beautiful and wonderful.Look at it, livein it and respect it.

but the times article was quite clear that the 2 fish were found on the seabed by the diver (what is not clear is how he established they were shot and not netted/fed wrong food like crisps)

unfortuneately  if the  video mentioned above is gone, we cant go over it to see if it is really near p29, or  even in malta, Italian coast looks a lot like ours

one thing I find hard to understand is why a poacher in a *marine protected area* would take a camera to film what he is doing , and then put it on youtube!
to show other competing poachers where to go catch fish?  ???

in news jmorru skond il pinnur, min fejn jaqbel ir rih, jaqleb. Billi kien hem xi video u nahhewh, ma jfisser xejn. Bla provi fil fatt, ma jfisser xejn. There are too many interests in all this....
Could 2 divers brought the fish on site to raise an issue on this matter?
Yes it could..

It seems that history is repeating itself. The fabricated stories by BirdLife (Malta) against hunters finding dead protected birds has hinted the diving business to do the same apparently.

@Ballastbelly – and you believe Times of Malta stories?!!! The hatred against hunters is evident enough and probably they are starting the same thing against recreational fishermen and spearos.
