First Time Trolling Reel

For people who want to start trolling here in Malta for fish like Alungi and Tuna without spending a fortune on a reel, I thought I'd recommend a couple, each with their own pro's and con's.

Penn 114H 6/0 Special Senator - $115 (Approx Lm33.00 excl shipping, duty and VAT)

475 yards of 50lbs mono, 760 yards of 30lbs mono.

Pro's: Tried and tested bullet proof design, will last you a lifetime, not expensive to buy and perfect for local fishing
Cons: Star drag which not everyone may like, fairly heavy


Shimano TLD25 - $170 (Approx Lm50 excl shipping, duty and VAT)

450 yards of 40lbs mono

Pro's: Lever Drag Reel, aluminium spool, lightweight, excellent first time reel
Cons: Graphite reel seat can crack under heavy pressure but needs to be alot
