Hello,

have you ever heard about this technique?

Light Rock Fishing, or LRF as it's more commonly known means different things to different people. Essentially it's ultra light lure fishing - requiring skill and finesse. It's the perfect way to hone your general lure fishing skills and continues all year round. No longer do you need to pack up your lure fishing tackle in winter, once traditional sport species like Lampuki disappear. For others, like me, it's the ideal fishing discipline to target new and interesting species, helping us to knotch up record levels of species each season. To all though, young and old, experienced or beginner, it means incredibly fun fishing.

Basically it looks like spinning but with a smaller tackle and thin line (3-4lbs).

I love it because the catch brings a real fight and it's really important to know how to work it out, otherwise it can be lost.  So funny!  Try to catch a big "lichia amia" (sorry I don't know yet the name, I write the name of the specie) with that tackle.

Hehehe, sorry for the long post, I just want a fishermate to go fishing;)

I show you some pictures

Hi Mario! I have practiced UL (LRF) since 2010. Two years ago I met a young lad (around 12-13 yrs. of age) who was fishing UL at the Bugibba pier. I have a friend from Bulgaria who lives in Malta and I equipped him for UL fishing. He is catching well on UL in the harbours around Valetta. Here is my last UL catch from my visit to Malta last year

Good luck!

Hi everybody, I joined this forum because I have a plan to visit Malta this year. I love UL rock fishing and this topic can be very helpful for me.

What species do you fish in Malta? I can see some small seabass (branzino)...

Vlado61, nice reel, I love old Luvias for light spinning, you need to be very careful because that is magnesium reel and salt water can do damage to that nice old Daiwa, it is made mainly for fresh water use. ;)

I can see you use not so small lures and soft plastics. Have you ever tried Japan made soft plastics for rock fishing on very small jig head (hook size 6-10, jig head 0.5-3.5 g)?

I can recommend some of the models that produce the most fish for me.

Reins Rockvibe Shad 2"

Shimano Soare Zoaeshad 1,5"

Ecogear Grass Minnow S & SS size

Yamashita Maria Mama Worm Shirauo 1,5"

Yamashita Maria Mama Worm Bachi 1,3"

OFT Screw Tail Grub 1,5"

Fina Ika Matty Mame 1,5"

Ecogear Paramax 2"

Sawamura Bullet 2.5"

Ecogear Sansun 3"

Smith Mebarm 2.5"

And many more...  :D

I like to rig them on a Ecogear Shirasu Jig Head, it is very light and sharp jig hook.

I use the small plasics for freshwater ul fishing. In the sea they will catch you only very small gobies, sea scorpion fish and combers.
