Does anyone know of the heaviest barracuda caught in Maltese waters, either commercially or sport fishing because they seem to be a differnt type in size than the tropical version?
If you can't eat it don't kill it.

LapsiBoy

Commercial fisherman dont catch Cudas redbus, maybe in nets but as a bycatch. The biggest cuda i have heard of was caught trolling with a big mackarel. The cuda was said to weigh some 12 kilos

SPITEC

Yes Lapsi cudas are caught commercially when they see a big shoal they surround it.
FISHING IS THE BEST HOBBY AND IT'S GREAT FOR RELAXING

try to stop the bait and give it a fast twitch that makes them go crazy, i had the same problam in kuwait when a local showed me that trick. good luck

Hi kris,

i've been spinning for the last 2 years...first of all it's a matter of perseverance and you have to keep on trying till you catch one.

Let me explain something about your gear. I think that you're using monofilament instead of braid. I think that thickness doesn't matter between .35 and .40. When i began spinning i used to do so using a .40 line and i caught barras as well, so it isn't the matter.

In my opinion you should remove the traces yesterday not today/tomorrow...barras sees them...so please make sure you remove that.

I use a swivel and don't attach the lure directly to the monofilament because with barras the secret is to change lure every now and then so it's easier with a snap swivel rather than knots (faster and better).

Regarding lures...in my opinion yo-zuri are some massive lures when it comes to open water specially the red head and the clown. I think that you should buy some more lures like Mammotti 180 and Vendetta 173. Those two are massive when it comes to barras. When it comes to barras the ideal lures are between 15cm - 18cm. Anything less than that in my opinion is too small...barras tend to get hooked on large lures.

As i told you in the beggining it's all a matter of perseverance and all you have to do is buy some new lures like the ones i mentioned above and keep trying new spots. Sometimes you will find it difficult to catch something and maybe for long times but what's the use in catching a barra with every cast...you will be bored too...the freaken thing about spinning is that you have to spin and don't know when the fish will strike :)

Try the things above and you should get results...Maybe you should join the maltese spinning forum too. It helps a lot and you will find professional tips when it comes to spinning. Barras don't tend to be hooked a lot this time of year...it's more a winter thing but some good sized ones are catched.

Maybe you should try and give us a feedback.

Tight lines my friend

If you're buying lures, tackle or fishing equipment, then 2 members who have helped the forum to no end come to mind:  Clutch_kick and Okuma-1976.  Send these guys a PM, and I'm sure you'll find something that suits your needs.
