Rabbit fish

I was always thought that skalm has poisonous spines. Can anybody confirm if true?
Can't wait to go fishing

no no ramio the skalm is harmless. and so is the zundun. The only 2 which are poisonous from their family are the tracna and the sawt.

Emic if you take any pics of the rabbit fish I have a contact with a marine biologist in the university and would like some photos and some info. Area where you saw the rabbitfish, depth etc. He offered to give us any useful info on species we find new for maltese waters if we show him pics.

any body knows what the english name for the sawt is so I can find out what it looks like?

Hi Ramio. It's in page 16 in Arti2's masterpiece. (they're in alphabetical order in Maltese)
Maltese:- Sawt
English:-  Lesser Weever
Italian:-   Tracina Vipera
Latin:-     Echiichthys  vipera
Class:-    Actinopterygii
Order:-    PERCIFORMES
Family:-   Trachinidae
Genus:-    Trachinus
I'd rather be fishing.....

Give him my mobile and i can talk to him. I can go and catch one so that can study on it.

As far as I know there is no such fish called zundun. I think what you mean is Zondu, http://maltafishingforum.com/talk/index.php?topic=610.270 which is also poisonous.

Sorry arti2 its because we call it zondun my apologies. Is it poisonous? :S i usually handle the zondu normally out of the parit because everyone always told me it  was not poisonous.

they gave me cream cos told me that was enough but afterb 7 days its still having some pain in it.  And this time don t worry cos the 6.5mm spear will give better results on them

The shoulder spines can inflict, painful stings. Usually found buried in the sand or mud.
