Hey All,

Have been reading up on Kill/Fish Bags which are essentially very well insulated bags to hold your prized catch when out offshore. As most boats don't have sufficient in deck insulated box storage everyone has to resort to either cooler boxes with Ice or the more flexible option of this kill bags. Being padded and insulated they also help protect the fish and if your boat can accomodate it you can hang them on the rear transom resting on the swim platform.

Unfortunately the decent sized ones ain't cheap ranging from $230-$450 for a 30-40 inch x 80 inch large bag. You then put your fish and Ice in and keep them very fresh for a day or 2. However everyone seems to rave about them as being a high initial expensive, but one that lasts and pays off in the long run.

Mike do you use these?

Skip, my boat the Pez Mago has a fish hold that makes some frieghter blush with shame. It would hold a 100 - 200 pound tuna ( three or four of them) and the ice to chill those bad boys bones. Our fishing here in Southern California, doesn't get the big bluefin like you do. If we get a 50 pound bluefin that a nice fish, you won't see the 200 pound bruisers here. You'll find them off the eastern coast, and those guys do use a lot of those bags...They're worth every dollar you pay for them. However, most guys have to work on getting the critter in the boat, before the have to worry about a bag. LOL

Take care all and good fishing.

Mike,

We're optimistic!! True one has to get the fish in the boat first, but I was concerned that once in, it would spoil without a decent way to store it, or them! One large cow would be nice, but am also happy with several smaller ones.

Out of curiousity, what make/model is your boat with the monster fish hold?

Skip, I fish a Blackman, Sportfisher, she's 26 feet, and diesel powered, carries 155 (USofA) gallons,  range is going to in 300 nm range. I"ll fish her 70-100 miles down, and that puts me 100+ off shore. I don't do those long trips every time. We're waiting for the albacore to move up the Baja coast now...

One of my guests woke up one morning and freaked because he couldn't see land...who cares just fish!

Hi Mike,

Checked them out, think the current model is the 26 Billfisher now but looks like a very good platform with a good range. 1 ton fish storage is what caught my eye, sweet :)

Hey all,

Back to this kill/fish bag!

I strongly recommend this for all you avid fishermen out there you care for one's catches. This bad can keep ice frozen for a while and more importantly no mess in the boat. Never Say Die has now one on board and did the job well.

Doesnt look like it Fin. Everyone seems to resort to the hard ice boxes, but I reckon they're not so friendly for storing as they are bulky, especially one needed to hold fish that are 8kgs+
