hi guys i opened this post so that those who are going fishing can let the other members know that they are going to be out at sea. Its not a safety feature just so that others who are going out can make contact.

I am off for Alungi and maybe a spot of deepsea fishing tomorrow 29th July. Out of B'bugia harbour by 5.30am and heading 210 degrees to troll about 5 miles off filfal. Will be back by 1pm if Alungi not biting.

Tony would be useful to put in the Organised Trips and Cost Sharing section that way if people are looking to go out and you have space they can post and get in touch

Good Idea Shanook,

so that at least if there's someone else fishing and VHF will be in range, you can have some company.

even if there's someone who wants to share some bearings for deepsea fishing, be assure that you're more than welcome Grin Grin Grin Cheesy Grin

Hi Shanook I'm going to be there too tomorrow as I decided to give alungi another shot this week especially after hearing that Ianis caught around 17 on Friday last week. I will be on channel 6 so we can keep in touch. I also spoke to camkev this evening as he might be there on his boat too.

Hi Guys, was out fishing saturday on my boat with shanook, had a good time there was lots of fish activities, we managed to catch 7 albacore. The bites were all between the first two ridges between ghar hassan and filfla. Be carefull as there are a lot of kannizati about. By the looks of it bait fish where underneat them hence the concentration of tuna.
Any other MFF members out there saturday, what was your catches? Poline tuna said he had a good catch that morning.
Good luck to all going out tuesday

Hi Ramio, I was out last Saturday in my usual place between the two ridges south east of Filfla.

Up until 10.30am I had only caught one Alunga using what had previously been very effective pink and purple lures. Was about to head back in when I got a call from Skip informing me that other MFF boats were out and catching lots of alungi near Filfla. Changed my lures to Rapalas headed a couple of miles closer to Filfla and caught two more Alungi and a Pastardella straight away within the space of an hour. My fuel was running down by noon so I headed back into Msida.

I guess fishing is all about location, location, location but was really surprised how a previously productive location was either devoid of fish or the fish weren't interested in lures which had worked very effectively in previous weeks. Just out of curiousity did anyone catch on squid or feather lures last Saturday?

Wish I could go out tomorrow as the weather seems ideal, unfortunately I have to wait for the weekend. Good luck to those who are going out tomorrow!

I should be going out on Thursday with SimonG for the day. I think we are going to try and go more or less West of Dweja and out around 20-25miles and see what we find out there as BFT are known to hang around. Might be too early in the season for that location but as I've never been out there before at this time of year will give it a go.

Will be on Ch.06 this time around with the fixed VHF, callsign Eagle One or Skip, MMSI# 235065656

Just returned from a morning trolling off Filfla.

Below is an image of what we caught - 2 chunky alongi and a tumbrell caught early in the morning. This tumbrell must have been feeding on something like creatine given its size!  Grin

As a general picture of the conditions which we had, there was very little activity around other than some surfacing shoals of small fish just before sunrise. Sea state was almost mirrorlike with a slight Northerly breeze at times. And the bites came late, one at around 10 and the other around noon I believe.

Guess today's trip was the last one for alongi this season for me. Looking forward to give BFT a go now.
