Hi,

I managed to get a Viper Size 90 http://www.scubatoys.com/store/detail.asp?PRODUCT_ID=SporasubViper and I would like to make custom slings for it. I was thinking maybe 19's or 20's. I am planning for the first time to make the slings myself according to a tutorial I found http://www.medfish.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=244. I know there is a formula here in this tutorial but any more ideas would be much appreciated  ;). I heard Picasso slings are good .... any ideas where to get them from ? C ya around.

I have a JBL explorer 24 which takes 2 slings  1/2inch *25 inch.  any ideas where to get them locally, or is there someone who can make them locally?

For a viper I suggest that the best setup doesn t get mot then 18mm black rubber. Much more this is when dealing with a 90. Yes locally you can find easy to buy 18mm rubber by meter and you can fix it as you said.

Regard the JBL explorer 24, I tried to see on the web its head. I think it use circular bands. To buy 12mm its hard to find them locally but if you put more details about the lenght, spear diameter and type oh head (circoar rubbers or not) we can help you to make a good setup.

Thay setup like the JBL are made of more rubbers like 3-7 circular slings taht are easy to load with a wide diameter of spear and very accurite cos very low recoil.

About how to make that setup for the viper sure cannot work cos thats for an open head. You can do it as much as you like but with a close head like the viper you need to make a metal one. And before you do it, check cos there a a lot of principles to take care before you do it. I used that setup for 2 years and know their disadvantage and what type of spears you need to have.

Hi Buddhagrass, for the viper I suggest you, not to use slings from 19 and thicker.  Because from what many people told me, their trigger isn`t the very best you can have, and you may find your speargun shooting by itself, which is very dangerous if it may happen.

Also, to say everything, a friend of mine has one of them and has put double slings of 17 on it, and so far he hasn`t had any problems.

sorry I am not sure I understand regarding the JBL, it takes 13mm by 64cm rubber with a v shaped stainless steel wishbone, is there anything close to that on the local market?  I bought a rubber from a french firm and it worked for the front slng but it wouldn't reach the back notch.

I can only comment as regards the viper.
It is a very reliable gun. I never had any problems with the trigger or any other issue. I used to have always 19mm megabooster slings on it with thread (not circular). I was quite happy with it, and I still am, althought that today I am using a more powful gun. But for its use, I find it reliable and good. many still ask to buy its head, to put it on other custom made guns. I have to beleive that it is a god gun for winter periods.
Although its range of shooting is not something fenomenal, I thing that i will never sell it. It is very reliable, and I used it quite a long time.
I would not invest much more than necessary on it, because nowadays you find better guns, and I beleive that it is not worth to spend much money on it.
Hope it helps.

bagira,

sure its a good gun in terms of material and for its price its very reasonable, but i dont like it if its more then a 75 cm long. Your I don t remamber the size where i tgink was a 90cm, where for the first 2 mtrs it had a very powerfull shot but for a bit longer shots the spear use to fall instead of arriving. I tried it in shalow in 3mtrs of water and still didn t gave me results. With other guns I would had caught that blue runner remember?

One of my ideas is that the gun should be as powerful as it an take and not even in the penatration but even for long shots. If you are diving and you shoot only fish in 2mtr range so is better that instead if a hessle of taking a 90cm all the ive u take a 60cm

As for winter this year I go for a 85cm carbon too. range of 4.5-5mt which definitly help me with seabass
