Personally I thaught the one in the independent pic is a great white but the one in the other pic is a Mako.

The thing is that I was mistaken. The real thing is that it is the same shark according to this site! And it was caught in 2005.

And the biggest one ever caught is the one caught by the Maltese man from Zurrieq.
The whole story is here:

But even this story has some doubts about the size of the shark. After careful study it measured 5.3 metres.

Every summer shark sightings increase. It can be possible nowadays because of the tuna pens. But most sightings result not being true. Hope it doesn't come out as the story of the wolf.

Recently I don't know if the story of the Portugese Man of War is true or not. That is if they were seen in our waters. Some people easily invent stories.

Great link Arti2

@ markcam .... i think it's fake. The guy looks as he is pointing his speargun to an aquarium. Just my 2 cents.
If you ain't living on the edge, your taking too much bloody space

That shark was caught on the 16th of June 2005. I still have that picture saved in my PC and that guy with the Mako shark is not the man know as Futru.

even when someone will see a Muruna or a Big Mazzola being caught by a fisherman will say that they caught a white shark  ;D

it's all a bunch of lies and nothing more the only truth is that the sea is full of Jelly fish and that's the only danger in the maltese coastal waters.

To tell you the truth me and my buddy saw a fin around a week and a half ago off zurrieq followed by a huge splash some 10 minutes after off ghar hasan as we were going back home on our rubber dinghy! Somehow its true that at the begining of the summer season some close shore appearances occur! could the reason be that this is the period in which tuna migrate and may be hunted down by some predators? Also.....just a thought......could speed boats' noises repell away these magnificant predators along the rest of the summer? Once we were going out with the dinghy from gnejna bay when we saw a shark fin on tal wahx reef.....we approached it slowly with our spearguns loaded (il-heroes ta ras -.......) and it splashed downwards as we approached as if it was afraid of the outboard's noise!

Guys in this time of the year it is very common that sharks come close to land. We see quite a lot imma ma noqodux indoqqu trombi ;) Last one i saw was in march just 1/4 mile off tigne point. Kris was with me. Now as summer approaches we see sharks just 1nm offshore. Most common shark on the east is the blue shark.
