Do MFB registered boats require MMA license to be driven?

joe

for shure mfc you need the license and ones it is more then houndried i think you needid

busumark

for mfc you dont need the lisence because they dont give you mfc if you have more than 100 hp. mfb dont need the lisence

Shaftbomb

So any size boat and any size engine as long as the boat is registered MFB does not the MMA lisence to drive it?

Busu are you sure? Any vessel that has more than 100hp needs the MMA nautical license course done at MCAST. I seem to remember there being some fishermen doing this course, unless they have some kind of exception?

joe

sory busumark you wrong my is mfc and they send me to do the lice

busumark

JOE but maybe you have inboards that are more than 100 hp. i forgot the inboards for mfc i think they can be more than 100hp. i think mfa and mfb dont need lisence but better check with fisheries

baghira

In October me and some others are going to apply at MCAST for the Basic Seamanship and safe boathandling. Cost is 130euro and is on a part time  8 days evening.
With this course we can then apply for the personal license to drive 100hp boats. (license for 10 years 23.29euro)

Whoever is interested just posts, or send me an sms.
It would be nice to do it alltogether.
Ear Pain aaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

joe

sory for mfb and mfa i dont no you beter cheec fisheries

bigboy

as far as i know mfa and mfb do not need any licence. Ours has a 135hp engine and nor i (skipper) and neither the owner have a license. Although top speed is maybe 12knots lol

Shaftbomb

Ok just to confirm - yesterday I went personally to talk to Teddy at MMA Gozo - YES YOU NEED AN MMA LICENSE TO DRIVE AN MFB BOAT - it is illegal to drive without a license no matter what engine power you have.
Another question here - does anybody know if there is any horsepower restrictions when registering a boat as MFC?  An can a boat with outboard be registered as MFC?

fishfinder

Shaftbomb MFC restricted the outboards up to 100hp.

This really doesn't make sense.  So what happens to those who have MFB already with engines of more than 100hp and don't sell the required amount of fish in three years, there MFB number is confiscated, and then what happens??  Given an S number?  It's really a big box of confusion only found and made in Malta.

bigboy

Shaftbomb you will be given an mfc number if you do not reach the quota. To move back up to mfb you will need to pay lm 1000. No offese i agree with this!!! Mela aw miljhun dajsa bl MFB u tkun xi dajsa li dak li jkun juzahha biex jmur irejjex jew johrog mal familja :/

I can't find any documentation anywhere that states that max hp for an MFC is 100hp and frankly it makes no sense at all. If MFC is supposed to be for recreational fishers then a 100hp is not correct and probably inherited from the PTF days and therefore easily challenged. I would like to see where it states you cannot be MFC with more than 100hp outboard. If anyone has any docs would be most interesting.
