Well done guys, seems like everyone enjoyed the match, not a great deal caught, but I see everyone had a good day.
Remember it is not the winning, it is the taking part.
SOJ is back in the water next week so, Skip lets have another friendly soon.

How are the competitions organised, by the way, are there set dates, throughout the season, when there are matches  on, friendly or otherwise and do we pay match/competition fee's.
Are there specific area's allocated were everyone must fish, during matches, to make it fair for all skippers, by this I mean skippers who may have a bigger boat, can cover a far larger area of water than a skipper who's boat may not be on the larger size.
Hope you don't mind the questions, just trying to get a feel of how you run things out here.

Hi Gus
We have various competitions organised by the forum, Spear fishing, land fishing and boat fishing. The major one being for Alungi. the rules are various and are issued according to the venue.
By the way dont be tooooooooo sure about having the bigger faster boat produces the better catch. As last year we had the experts out fishing for Alungi, We had fast small boats, fast large boats with outriggers, but, and I am not downsizing anything, the competition was won by a 14ft Dinghy. Well done there........

The only boat to catch a fish whilst bottom fishing was Fortuna/Maltembu who caught a small Burqax (unknown weight).

None of the other boats placed because there were no fish around. In addition we didn't follow the loosely set guidelines of start and finish location plus the fishing area due to the bad weather that was being experienced for most of the day.

In fact myself and Fortuna who launched from Qawra were unable to make it down towards St. Julian's due to the prevailing conditions, and the vessels who departed from Msida went straight out as best they could. As such we had no proper starting or finishing point.

I've spoken with Fortuna as ultimately how he feels about the matter makes a difference and he was happy for us to create a Round 2 of this event assuming the other boats would like to take part. I feel (but I want to hear your comments) though should other vessels want to take part in Round 2 they are welcome to do so, but Fortuna will enter Round 2 already with a points advantage to recognise that he was the only vessel to catch something in Round 1 !!

In addition the feeling is that for trolling etc we should start in the morning early so this will need to be factored in to Round 2. I will be away from Sat 6th March until Sat 13th March, if one of the Senior Moderators can take care of supervising the event they are free to arrange whilst I am away, other we will be looking at either the 20th or 21st of March?

to help you decide better okuma will still give a prize for round one to all the crew on the Fortuna.

we'll be offering a strike pro lure each which will for sure help you catch more during round 2 :)

good luck to all for round 2

Thanks as usual for all the replies.
Will round 2 be open to any boats, or just to the boats that competed in round 1.

Cheers as always.
