We have a great deal of sucess pulling the cedar plugs individually, however, one thing we've learned that if one is good 4 is better. We've been making what we call "Skipper" cedar plug daisy chains...Here's my best attempt at a description. On a 6-7 foot leader we attach the last and largest (6 inches) cedar plug at the end of the line equipt with a new hook. Along the 6 - 7 foot main line we crimp on 12 to 14 inch droppers made a little heavier mono (than the main line) to the main line. These are spaced about 18 inches apart and they have a hookless 4 inch cedar plug attached at the end of the dropper. One of the important points is to insert the dropper line into the front of the crimp/sleeve. The action is unbelievable. You can vary them as well but using painted 6 inch cedar plugs at the end of the main line...that really breaks up the pattern and makes that larger cedar plug stand out.

This a real tip for big eye and larger tuna....use a high speed planner, they're very quick to deploy, and retrieve, pull a 6 inch mackerel pattern cedar plug from the planner, and under your spreader bars. My customers on the east coast of the U.S. are hammering the larger big eye, bluefin, and the yellow fin with this set up...black and purple is another great color for that cedar plug running down below. DOUBLE HOOK UPS!!!!The larger fish come up in competitive groups and the first fish gets the cedar plug! What does the next fish have to feed on? THE SPREADER BAR!!! Stout stuff is needed all round on this set up....Have any of you fisherman tried these or the set ups in the Med. waters????

Hi Mike,

Not that I've heard of. Any pictures of this rig that you can post, am a bit lost to visualize it but would be interested at giving it a go. Do you reckon the 6 inch cedar is still okay for smaller 10-20kgs tuna?
