Hi Endless summer,
Rods and hand held lines with artificial lures are the only permited gear. There is no limit on number or size of rods, lines and hooks.
Longlines and live bait of what so ever nature are forbidden.
All this will be reconfirmed during the Briefing on 21 June.

PS I got your application, can you kindly also forward your address needed for BFT permit as FCD require.
   THanks

GoGo, do you have a final draft of the rules as these are often requested when people register so that they can get a better idea of the tournament conditions.

Also what is the limit as to the number of hooks per line? eg. Only one lure per line/rod can contain a hook (in the case of Rapalas/Hard Bodied two hooks are allowed)

The above is an important issue given that this is a recreational event.

Why not convert rapalas and other hard bodies to only have a single hook at the end of the lure connected by an 'O' ring, i.e., no use of treble hooks.... Making the catch more challenging and in case of releasing BFT simpler... just an opinion to work on.....

In my humble opinion tempering with treble hooks on lures will effect the balancing of the lure resulting in poor performance.
In that case I would rather go for soft lures rigged with hooks

This is not an IGFA sanctioned tournament. There is no need to replace treble hooks with double or single hooks. Besides, how can we control which lures and hooks are used!...

was just an idea to make C&R of smaller tuna easier and with the higher chance of not having to lose your lure if its deep in its mouth..... its easier to take of one hook than 2 trebles...... as i said, just an idea...

Robby017 - who ever wants to use single or double hooks on hard rules, may very well do so.  However, there is no way that can be included in the regulations for this tournament, as it is impossible to enforce and control.  The rules governing BFT landings will be copied word for word from current legislation.  Anybody who lands a BFT smaller or lighter than what is stipulated in the regulations will obviously face disqualification from the Tournament + other actions as deemed necessary and according to law by the Fisheries Control Division.
On using live or dead bait, would you all please refer to the post #60 by Gogo - the tournament director.  With reference to chumming, the tournament director and tournament committee have yet to meet for a final decision.

no Live bait whatsoever oh well and we have a Maltese product called predapro and it would have been a nice international advert if there were decent catches by this predapro.............I have no commission or anything to do with this product..........but its a Maltese manufacture.........
BUT rules are rules and they are there to be........
Please come out with these rules and regulations as quickly as possible..........

Hi Gogo, why trolling dead bait is not being allowed? If it is being trolled the same as an artifial lure with regards to speed and hook setup.

Gogo

According to FCD Longlines are prohibited for recreational fishering. I sent an email to FCD asking what is their view on dead bait.

After sleeping on what i wrote above it might make some sense about the artificial lures and live/dead bait........I can easily rig up a long line of say 20 hooks during the competition if I had live/dead bait with me.........Its impossible for the organisers to see that this does not happen
Tournaments abroad take a judge with them on the boat to see that all is done according to rules, but here we cannot afford that.
I am in favour or trolling lures and live/dead bait but circumstances might dictate differently................
Your call organisers..................we need the rules......whatever they are as long as they are clear........

cla144

For the long lines I totally agree that they are prohibited. But for dead bait trolling it can be allowed for example just 6 fish on board that can be inspected as well during the normal inspection of fishing tackle before departure. I am saying this because when last year we took part for the Porto Rotondo Big Game competition, one of the competition rules said that a maximum weight of 3 kgs are allowed on board the vessel with regards to natural baits. (Competition rules: page 6, theme: ESCHE, 2nd sentence)

The above idea is up to discretion of the Tournament board, after all we are going to participate for a good cause and to have fun :)
