What is the best bait to use between vopa and bobinu? I am going to use this bait for shore spinning.
thanks

Ruzett

Both are good but I prefer vopi. If you are using dead bait, don't forget to break their spine so that they look like a living fish when they are being retrieved. Let us know if you catch something. Goodluck :)

Could be the hook was too large or the line was too thick, or else there were'nt fish at all!

Or too many fishing nets surrounding the coast.

Saw quite a few small fish about. Hooks were only about 1cm long . Guess I'll have to come back soon to try again. Grazzi

Hi caroline ,

I often fish those areas so maybe I can give you a few pointers for the next time you visit. I often fish with a paternoster rig using cut pieces of red shrimp . You could also attempt to catch some live shrimp with a hand net from the rock pools all along the coast leading up to the gozo ferry and fish  them whole with hook set in their back with the hook tip just poking out, I have had some good results in the past. Regarding hook size and type I always use a size 8 Owner . There are various jetties about in that area off which you can fish including some in the hotel grounds themselves. Float fishing is also fine by try to avoid bread because it only attracts damselfish ( Cawl ) , those small black fish that i'm sure you saw.  As I said go for some frozen shrimps  or buy a small net  they are about 3 euro or less and catch a few shrimps from the rockpools. Imp not to catch too many from one area so that there are left over to repopulate and avoid catching those shrimps that are carrying eggs. They are not that difficult to find you will notice them by their whiskers popping out. Also very important to release any small fish you catch. I am giving up all this info cause I know how hard it is to get any good tips . Hope you enjoyed your stay in Malta and if you are back in Malta msg me if need any further help :)
A bad day of fishing is better than a good day of work!
