Dear All,

Yesterday no catches or strikes at all, we were approximately 6 to 8 boats and non of us stopped, we trawled all the way down to behind filfla and start way back.

Trawled at 5 knts with a yozuri red head with 400 grams weight at approx. Lure was approx 150ft from boat. Please advise if the setup and speed was good, i am open to recommendations.

Most of the other boats then either detoured or started fishing for other spices.

During the trip noticed others fishing in deep water, presumably for 'bazut' or similar fish. If anybody has more info pls let me know as it is very interesting to know other fishing practices.

The good thing about it was that it was really relaxing and mind at peace. Fuel consumption was low with a four stroke engine.

Regards to all and hopefully more luck in the coming weeks to everyone.

Not too surprised as the sea temp is quite still not there yet. Hopefully there will be a change in condition shortly. Its not farfethched then that the albacore season is likely to kick in late this year.

Fyi, they were deep sea fishing and apart from being a relaxed fishing style, it is quite an expensive way of fishing as equipment is pricey. I will be having a go for it this year but sometimes it does pay off.
Good season so far.....

Hi Granitu,

I meant relaxed for my self as the sea out there really relaxes me. I am very sure it is expensive to fishing so deep as you need special gear and presumably bait as well.

May i ask if my set was ok?

I prefer Jet heads over hard body lures if I am using weight. For hard body lures like the Rapala I prefer that they fish without weight as they dive 6 metres themselves, but this is a mere personal preference.

Lookup some posts within the forum, there is loads of information and even better, its good stuff that actually works!!!

Sorry cant held you, I never use the lipped lures I always use surface lures, straight runners, poppers or sliders when I need to go deeper I add weights. I troll between 6 and 12 knots, (mostly in the 8knot region). thats why i dont use lipped lures. If its a deep diver (large Lip) then 5 knots is the right speed. Good luck for next time camel10.  If you have a temperature gauge look for changes in water temperature, good place to find albacore. I think the water is still cold this year.
