We trolled on Thursday and didn't come across any Alongi but did land a 117cm BFT (duly tagged). Friday one nice 12kgs Alonga at 0530 and then nothing whatsoever until around 11am on the way in when we hooked up to a Pastardella.

A very odd season, and I suspect the being migratory fish, Alongi stayed far offshore and bypassed Malta. Perhaps a lack of bait fish or perhaps related to the colder sea temps. Am no expert so just speculating.

The strong Majjistral winds last weekend brought in cooler temps for a few days, pushing surface water away and forcing fresh, cooler and nutrient rich water from the depths upwards with lots of baitfish. Alongi appeared to have moved in very close to the shoreline to feed on the baitfish that were brought in.

Not sure if others can confirm but I believe Alongi have been spotted in quite a large quantity in a feeding frenzy close to shore.

did someone go out today? was there near filfla, saw a lot of activity on the surface but not a single strike!!!

Lots of tunas jumping out of water, very few strikes. Even though it was nice to see.

Friday was a good day for us with alungi biting well. Lots of surface commotion. Sat the surface commotion decreased and so as the bite
