Assuming the winds calm down a bit we should be going fishing Thursday and Friday, morning/evening or even both   we usually troll early morning and in the evening we troll till after sunset and bottom fish during the night.  I have a 13ft boat with an 8hp outboard so it is easy to launch the boat from anywhere as it is on a trailer.  Usually we launch from Xemxija however the last few times we went we were very unlucky so I thought of launching from somewhere else.  :-\

I was wondering if any of you might be able to suggest where to launch from and how far out we should go.

Any replies would be greatly appreciated  ::)

Thanks!

blackhawk first let us know what u are trolling for?

blackhawkmt

mainly lizz, unless you can recommend anything else at this time.....

shanook

if u launch at xemxija if u go up to the farms at st pauls, then along the east coast (sta Marija) and then at kemmuna u should be ok.
would not recommend going to senglea as the sea is not clean there being a port, but they are catching as well.
To be honest i think that Lizz are all over. Lazy buggers they expect the lure to be right infront of face to hit.

thanks for your help shanook.  I was also thinking of going for tumbrell etc..... where do you think is best?

bigboy

its a bit too late for tumbrell my friend :( hav'nt heard of any tumbrell catches for a long time.

blackhawkmt

thanks bigboy....although to be quite honest a week ago i did catch a small one myself (well...it surely looked like one) from St. Paul?s bay.

I am very new to trolling so if you can give me some ideas on what to troll for and how it would be great! :)

bigboy

Could it have been a kavall ? right now you can troll for lizz, cervjol, kahli and as july approaches an occasional tunnagg.

Troll close to the shore in the early morning for lizz use either a rubber fish, for khali go to manoel island use kali lure light hook with small white feather and for cervojol use a spineer silver metal with a small white feather. dont use big lures as fish is not big at the moment and troll at around 4/4.5 knts. these are my metods tried and tested. if u dont have an extra motor dont go out too far take care always take a vhf. GOOD LUCK ;D

in a month time i think tumbrell bingins
i used o catch a lot of them on plastic klamari from birzebbuga, last year. by mid august, the big ones appear and it will be a lot of fun. we go quite often for them very relaxing. you might encounter a big strilja on the way which are quite common

Good season so far.....
