Hello everyone, my name is Michael and I'm coming to Gozo for the first time in just over a week.

I was hoping to catch a Lampuki with my travel spinning rod from the shore but reading some of the stories lately I see it's all off shore work, or a fish market!

So I'll set my sights on something else, I'd like to say hello to you all and thank you for this site! If there are any other tips of where I could go spinning in Gozo what lures to use and what I might catch I would be very grateful

Great forum keep up the good work Smiley)

look for rough terrain & deep waters and use 40-60 gram spinners.... you should be rewarded for your efforts. Or else, for lighter action use small minnows and poppers in bays and harbour.... C&R young catches please Smiley

Hey Robby thanks for the advice, will have 2 young kids with me so the harbour sounds good for them and if I can sneak off for a bit the rough terrain sounds good for me!

I've got loads more questions Smiley live bait availability on Gozo, float fishing and at what depths this time of year, has anyone had results using feathers/tinsel lures, fishing times - 5am - 7am seems popular but is it do with the tides or time of day in Gozo...

I'll have a better search on the forums and any more help would be great Smiley

Will C&R all youngsters of course thank you again

top water in harbors can be fruitful all during the day... i had hookups at 9am, 1pm and 4pm in summer so..... if you have 15 min to spare, try as you have nothing to lose.

feathers and tinsel may prove successful in Qbajjar, Gozo, but i never tried so can't vouch for them.

re:live bait Huh i don't know

i would recommend float fishing in the harbor for mullett.

enjoy your stay.

Hi
I'm Tony - English guy living in Malta for 18 years. I used to river fish in the UK but never tried sea fishing. I brought some equipment over with me but its for carp fishing so probably not really suitable for sea fishing.

I want to get back into fishing again (great excuse to get away from the wife Wink )

Where do I start? I don't have a boat or access to one so it will have to be from the shore/harbours etc.

Thanks

Hi to everyone here, I'm not exactly new to the club but I lost touch and my log in details and so had to start all over again. I'm 66 years old and from Sussex uk and was in Malta last may when the gales were almost blowing me off the rocks, never got much fishing done on that trip but the one planned for June is going to be different. I will be staying in Mellieha so anyone from that way is welcome to come and have a beer (or Two) with me. I'm not sure of the best places there to fish so I might head up towards the Gozo ferry terminal and give it a go there. Any local advice will be most welcome

Thanks

Joe

Hi All,

Will hopefully be visiting Malta again later in the Summer for the fourth or fifth time although this time as the kids are grown up and don't want to come on holiday with mum and dad any more I'll have a little bit more time on my hands  Grin

My names Marc and I do quite a bit of kayak fishing off of the North and South Cornish coasts (UK). Hope it's okay to be joining your forum as I want to do some research on kayak fishing around the Maltese islands in preparation of my holiday.

All the best,

What a lovely pic, and welcome to the forum. I'm not sure if he's still there but see if you can get in touch with Mike at http://www.kayakmalta.com/welcome.html

he was operating Kayak rental and I know his personal kayak is rigged up for fishing and Paradise is a good location to be doing some fishing on the West coast which tends to be the most productive area.

I'll second the Cornish Pasties Smiley

Hello,

My name is Geert, I come from Belgium and I am a fly fisherman.
I fish rivers (trout, grayling, lakes (bow trout, rainbow trout) and since
about 3 years also salt (meaning the sea) for seabass and anything else
that will bite!

I make my own flies (its work but its also fun!).

I fished salt water recent in france and caught a few seabass, my first salt fish ever!

I am comming over to malta in August and would like to flyfish and meet other fly fishermen.
As its tradition under (fly)fisherman: anybody that would like to help me? Fish with me? Point me to the good locations?

regards and tight lines!

Geet
